Latest Update on Dreamer's Progress
Dreamer's Cruise Log
February 22, 2006 - Trip Update
The weather here in the Sea of Cortez has been warm with winds of 10 to
20 knots at times and seas of 2' to 3', sometimes a bit more. We
have been trying to catch up on some boat maintenance chores and hope to
have a permanent fix on the watermaker filter next week. We
finally received the replacement filter lids at LaPaz so that is on the
ToDo List. All systems are working normally and no more
For the past month and a half, we have just been here in the LaPaz area, actually
Isla Del Espiritu Santo (about a 30 minute dinghy run from LaPaz), on
the hook and also made a couple cruises up the coast north of LaPaz.
None of the anchorages we have used have had good WiFi so we weren't
able to update our site until now. We just returned to LaPaz to
pick up some supplies and the watermaker lids.
Unfortunately, we were unable to meet up with Brian and Tonya this time
and we were all bummed out about that. However, I'm sure there
will be another time and they reported that they enjoyed their vacation
We are enjoying this area very much and the temps are just about right.
However, it will get hotter as summer arrives so we are evaluating our
air conditioning systems to make sure they will be adequate. I
think we will install a couple units to cool the main cabin and continue
to use the present system for refrigerator, freezer and cooling the
forward cabin areas at night. That means I will have to pull the
diesel furnace in the lazaret as that is the ONLY place I have to
install the new A/C units and since they will be reverse cycle plus the
fact that we intend to stay south with Dreamer, we won't need the
Trying to hook up with a good A/C man to help us with the install as I
really don't want to do it. I am meeting with a good possible
tomorrow here in LaPaz so hopefully we can conclude the equipment list
and get the job done by end of next month.
We still aren't sure whether to
hang out here in the Sea of Cortez for the summer or head south and get
into Costa Rica by end of May, June being the beginning of hurricane
season. We will have to decide around the beginning of April or so
in order to have the time for a leisurely trip down the coast. We
would like to head up to San Carlos first though. We shall see
what happens. One thing is sure, it gets HOT here in the Sea
during summer. So, on one hand we have hot and dry and on the
other hand we have a little less hot and humid. Tough call, but we
do want to explore the islands off the coasts of Nicaragua, Costa Rica
and Panama. More later.....
Latest Fishing Activity:
January and February 2006 - We have been doing a little fishing and have
caught more fish than we can eat so have done a bit of catch and
release. Quite a few Sierra, Bonito, and jacks, plus a couple
Dorado and one tuna. Not bad for the amount of fishing we have
done which is mainly to keep food in the fridge.
